The book chronicles the turbulent recording of the Rolling Stones' 1972 album, Exile on Main St., which took place at Keith Richards' seaside mansion, Villa Nellcôte, in southern France during 1971.  It details the difficult and dangerous environment surrounding the album's creation, including widespread drug use and extreme creative tension (to say the least). It's a raw and unsparing account of the summer of 1971. as the Rolling Stones lived in self-imposed exile at Keith Richards's Villa Nellcôte in southern France to avoid British taxes. 

There's detail about the recording process : How the album was recorded in a "dank basement" using a mobile studio truck; extensive details on the band's heavy use of heroin and cocaine during the sessions; appearances by celebrities like John Lennon, Yoko Ono, and Gram Parsons, who passed through the never-ending party and especially, It focuses on the evolving dynamics and tensions between Mick Jagger and Keith Richards.
