Here is a hard to find First Edition of "The Player" , the 1988 satirical novel by Michael Tolkin. It is a dark, cynical exploration of the Hollywood film industry. The novel's story follows Griffin Mill, a powerful and ruthlessly ambitious senior vice president of production at a major Hollywood studio. Mill begins receiving anonymous death-threat postcards from a disgruntled writer whose script pitch he supposedly ignored. Paralyzed by paranoia and the fear that this threat will jeopardize his career, Mill tracks down the man he believes is his stalker and accidentally murders him during a confrontation. Mill soon realizes he killed the wrong person when the threatening postcards continue to arrive.Instead of facing justice, Mill skillfully navigates studio politics to secure his promotion and enters a relationship with the victim's girlfriend, June.

The novel inspired the acclaimed 1992 film directed by Robert Altman, starring Tim Robbins. MichaelTolkin also wrote the screenplay, which received an Academy Award nomination. It is widely regarded as one of the most effective satires of Hollywood, often compared to classics like The Day of the Locust.

This is a first edition, published in 1988 by Atlantic Monthly Press.  The cover has some residue on top right dust jacket, otherwise it is in good condition, and has 198 pages.
