Vintage Chinese Pale Green Moss-in-Snow Nephrite and Sterling Brooch

The shades of this vintage Chinese sterling silver and jade filigree brooch are perfect for spring and summer.  The round, variegated stone green stone is characteristic of (and tests as) jadeite or nephrite jade, a material deeply significant in Chinese culture for symbolizing good fortune and longevity. The donut-shaped design features a classic "bi" (or "pi") disc, a traditional Chinese symbol of heaven and eternity, characterized by its circular shape and central hole. Take a close look at the intricate metalwork surrounding the stone,  a common technique in antique Chinese export jewelry. A smaller, decorated clear glass or crystal medallion is mounted in the center of the jade. 

Items with this specific style and use of filigree and jade are frequently identified as vintage Chinese Export pieces, popular during the Art Deco period (around the 1920s-1940s). On the back, we see China and Sterling in block letters, demonstrating the authenticity of the piece. It measures 1.25" across and is in very good condition.
